This urban hotel is located immediately next door to JR Wakayama Station, the largest train terminal in the city. The spacious lobby has a high-grade ambience. In one corner is their business support center equipped with internet, fax and copy machine. It is convenient for guests to use it.
The first floor coffee shop has an open stylish atmosphere. You can relax to a view of the city from the large window. The hotel makes their own signature cakes, and you will find a wide variety of delicious-looking cakes and pastries amongst the “Monthly Specials” made with seasonal ingredients.

I was guided around the facilities by Ms. Yamamoto of the Planning Department. she had a welcoming smile and friendly demeanor. When I inquired about the hotel’s best features, she smilingly replied, “A good night’s sleep was an important facet dealt with from early on in the hotel’s planning. For example, you can choose a pillow of preference in the lobby. We have a variety to choose from including low resilient Tempur pillows, bathtime pillows for the spa, and so forth, but the most popular is the buckwheat filled pillow of long ago.”
Also, some of the rooms were just remodeled with an emphasis on Japanese tastes, incorporating “hometown” and “rejuvenation” concepts. “We are using tatami mats and low tables so that guests can slip their shoes off and relax,” pleasantly tells Ms. Yamamoto.

Food is always an important item and the hotel seems to be rather adamant about what they provide. “Cooks who convey the seasons are true chefs. Our menu always features seasonal items that prioritize what is available today,” I was told. Within the hotel are a Japanese restaurant and buffet restaurant, but a great variety of restaurants is found next door at the Jowa Gourmet Park. Being right in front of the train station, the hotel is absolutely convenient for finding food.
Speaking of food, a popular breakfast item is the rustic “Chagayu” (tea gruel). And, you can cook dried local specialties yourself.

For souvenirs, the underground floors of the Kintetsu Department Store next door are convenient. They have sabazushi (cooked mackerel packed into a box), narezushi (salt-cured river fish), meharizushi (rice wrapped in subtly pickled mustard leaves) and a number of other specialties that let you savor the full depth and breadth of Wakayama cuisine. Walking around the store may be fun.
