Eco-Friendly Planning for the 2nd International Symposium on

1. Waste reduction plan
The following shall be done to minimize the generation of waste for incineration, etc.
(1) The organizer (The Study Group of Rice and Health, Japan), organizing committee and secretariat shall take home the leftover symposium programs and documents, the empty boxes they were carried in and posted signs indicating the location of the hall.
(2) Efforts shall be made not to generate waste as best possible when providing participants with beverages (water, tea, coffee, etc.) in the hall.
(3) Participants shall be asked to take home any newspapers, magazines, plastic bottles and other items they bring with them. The organizer shall collect and take home anything that participants leave behind.
2. Global warming prevention plan
The following shall be done to reduce greenhouse gases as a preventative measure against global warming.
(1) Participants shall be asked to take public transportation to the Wakayama Prefectural Culture Hall, Hotel Avalorm Kino-Kuni, lodgings, etc.
(2) Participants shall be asked to be as eco-conscious as possible when at or traveling to the site and lodgings.
(3) Because the symposium will be held in October, efforts shall be made as best possible to use natural air conditioning rather than the building system.
(4) Switches shall be turned off whenever not needing electricity.
(5) Copiers, personal computers and other devices shall be unplugged whenever not being used, to prevent power consumption while idling.
(6) Attention shall be shown not to waste supplies or consumables, and efforts shall be made to purchase Eco-Mark products when buying supplies or consumables.
(7) Hall staff and participants shall use the stairs to access other floors.
3. Disaster prevention plan
(1) The locations of fire extinguishers and emergency routes in the hall shall be confirmed and made known to participants.
(2) Emergency exists shall be checked while using the hall to make sure that they are not locked.
(3) In the event of an emergency, participants shall follow the evacuation instructions of hall staff or the organizers shall appoint a person in charge of evacuations to assist hall staff.
