The Fuji Hotel No. 2 is right next to the Nankai Wakayamashi Station. Access is easy and the area is residential, so it’s quiet. As Front Desk Manager Ishikura put it, “There is no noise around here; you can really spend a tranquil evening here.” As with the Fuji Hotel No. 1, this hotel takes “heartfelt and ecology” as its concepts.

The recommended spot for food is the 2nd floor restaurant, “Amitiè”. “At lunch time, the restaurant fills with customers. It is a rather popular location in Wakayama.” If you are looking for Japanese cuisine, they have “Tokomi”, and you can sit at zashiki (low tables on mats) to enjoy your meal.
You eat breakfast at “Amitiè” and can choose between Japanese or Western breakfast when checking in. Having immediate access to a popular restaurant is great way to enjoy food.

There is an internet station in one corner of the lobby and a copy machine, too. They have an air purifier next to the sofa in the smoking area and the air seems clean.
When I asked about interesting places nearby, Mr. Ishikura said, “About 5 minutes west on foot from Wakayamashi Station are the public library and history museum. You get both the culture and history of Wakayama, so they should be interesting.” By the way, on the 2nd floor of the library is an open collection of writings by local writer Sawako Ariyoshi who authored “Kinokawa” and “Hanaoka Seishu no Tsuma”.

Mr. Maemon of the front desk let me in on her favorite coffee shop; Café Ebisu, located in the Nishimoto Building about a 5 to 6-minute walk from the hotel. It has a retro Showa mood, so she says.

The souvenir recommended by Mr. Ishikura is the “Kamaage Shirasu” (boiled whitebait) from Yuasacho. “If you fill out the order form in your room, the producer will send it via parcel delivery service directly to your home. That’s one less bag to carry,” I was told. You have got to try this healthy seafood.
