The Daiwa Roynet Hotel opened four years ago. It is a 20-story building on the north side of Wakayama Castle. The concierge is on the 5th floor and there is a rooftop garden that is so tranquil you will forget you are in the city. The lobby is also spacious and peaceful, making it a good spot for reading or resting.

I talked with Assistant Manager, Mr. Otsuka, who told me, “I actually just came from Akita. Wakayama has basically a mild climate and a bountiful natural environment.”
When I asked if there was anything nearby where one could go to just change his surroundings, he stressed, “If anything, Wakayama Castle. From the castle tower, you command a view of the whole city, which will refresh the spirit. The castle’s design is also beautiful. Personally, I think it is the third most striking castle in Japan behind Himeji Castle and Inuyama Castle.” I got the impression that Mr. Otsuka likes castles a lot.

Elegantly designed lobby | 1st floor cafe terrace

When I inquired about any diner recommendations, he told me, “We have here in the hotel a variety of restaurants including Japanese, French, Chinese and Italian, which I fully recommend. Outside the hotel, taimeshi (sea bream with rice) is particularly good at Ginpei’s nearby. They bake a sea bream with rice in an earthen pot. I, too, ate it for the first when I came to Wakayama and it was delicious.”
The convenient store on the first floor sells also souvenirs such as umeboshi (dried plums) and ebisenbei (shrimp-favored chips), while one of the biggest bookstores in the city is found on the 1st and 2nd floors. It is a great place to browse around if you have a bit of spare time.

The guest rooms are spacious and have been highly rated for their large beds. By the window, they provide a long desk with enough surface area to accommodate a laptop computer and books at the same time, so you should be able to make progress with work or studies. Other than that, they offer low resilient pillows and charcoal-filled pillows for rent and women can enjoy amenity packages such as facials with beautifying liquids. You will enjoy the considerations they have made so that your have a pleasant stay.

A Japanese/Western-style buffet breakfast is served at the 3rd floor restaurant “Sanqchère”, which is operated by the hotel. They use as many local ingredients as possible and prioritize the warmth of homemade cooking.
