“The sea bream in Kada are meaty because they’re buffeted by the Black Stream. The sea bream you catch from a rod is absolutely divine as sashimi or tai-shabu (quick boiled),” tells the inn’s mistress. She is a bright, cheerful and youthful person that spontaneously brings a smile to your face.
When I asked her what the secrete to her youthful nature and vitality was, she replied, “A natural diet like people ate long ago, filled with plenty of hearty fresh fish and seaweed. In Kada, even the elderly are young. Even those over 80 years in age are out on the rocks collecting seaweed.”
I was envious how smooth and moist her skin was. The young girl that stood smiling next to her was attractive as well. It looks like beauty abounds in Kada!

The inn is about 200 years old and was originally an overnight lodging for people on pilgrimage to prominent shrines. These visitors would board ships for Shikoku in Kada. In one corner of the lobby are some roof tiles of yesteryear that have been put on display to tell about the inn’s long history. They serve coffee in the lobby as well, making it a great place to take a rest.

They showed me to the bath on the top floor. The room is enclosed in glass and has a sense of openness. Beyond a doubt, the view at sunset and sunrise has got to splendid.
When I asked about local souvenirs of particular interest, I was told, “The yomogimochi (mugwort rice cake) at Kojima Shoten. Kojima Shoten is very close to here, and they also sell top shell, ceylon moss, sargassum seaweed and so forth.”
The yomogimochi from Kojima Shoten is a famous specialty of Kada and many people come from afar to buy it. The store is located along an ancient byway and many old homes still remain today. The narrow street that carries the fragrance of the sea is a recommended walking course to Awajima Shrine.

Before leaving, the mistress told me her must-visit spot:“Up the small hill behind the inn are Kannondo Temple and Ennogyoujya Temple. The view from Ennogyoujya Temple is beautiful.” Curious, I made the trek up the hill and, yes, the view is beautiful. You have a panoramic view of the port in Kada, the vast Kitan Straits, Tomogashima Islands there within and Awaji Island in the offing.
